Across The Pond Lindsay Philipson is from the UK and is the face behind Prescious Violet and the artisan collective The Design Platform. H ow long has Precious Violet been up and running and where did the name come from? My relationship with jewellery has an odd history. Like most women I like jewellery and feel naked without earrings in particular. When my mother retired from work she began buying old broken strands of vintage beads from charity shops and antique fairs, rethreading or redesigning them and then getting on the bus to a local seaside resort once a month where she sold them to a very nice antique shop. But she kept the best for herself or gave them to my sister and I , and when she died in 2001 we inherited a large hoard of gorgeous old beads and crystals. When my daughter Sarah was about to get married in the summer of 2008 I looked around for jewellery to match my plain violet coloured dress and jacket - but not the average chain store, mass produced stuff with tacky plastic beads. creativebeadchat.com
