s Surrounded by an Island of Inspiration An Interview with Marica Zammit of Malta By Cynthia Machata What a fun interview I had with Marica. I have interviewed quite a few people over the years we’ve been publishing Bead Chat Magazine, but now I think I have heard it all. Who would guess a talk show would inspire someone to begin their bead journey? “It all started when I was watching a TV show one day. The host was chatting with this woman about some crafts that she was showing. She was using polymer clay to make some home décor pieces. I had never heard of polymer clay before. While I was impressed with the lovely pieces she was making it wasn’t until she said, ‘And now I’m going to show how to make a rose ring with polymer clay.’ That is what REALLY got my attention. What? A ring? I thought. Now we’re talking!” Inspiration can happen anywhere, from anything. Marica said the talk show hooked her. “I was so fascinated with this medium that she was using that as soon as the show ended, I went online and started researching polymer clay. The more I read about it, the more intrigued I got. I ordered some clay and tools the following day. And I haven’t stopped claying since.” “I had always loved jewelry. The more unique and original it was, the more I wanted it. I never really thought that I would create the jewelry myself though.” So how long ago did Marica come across her talk show inspiration? “I’ve been making jewelry for 6 years. I can’t imagine my life without it now.” She says that she’s creativebeadchat.com
