Global Movement for Change , Aaron Family Jewish Community Center of Dallas Are you passionate about globalization or driving change around the world ? Join us as we explore major issues facing our world today with stewardship from the United Nation ’ s International Youth Council . Participants will gain actionable skills for how to create a Global Movement by " Acting Locally " and " Impacting Globally ," while learning about the UN ' s Sustainable Development Goals , a set of 17 different goals which aim to end poverty , protect the planet , and ensure prosperity for all . You will leave this session with an individual action plan designed to activate the UN ' s network and help change the world ! Homelessness Awareness , Austin Street Center The statistics are staggering . In 2015 , an average of 564,708 people in the U . S . were homeless each night , and around 34 % of homeless individuals are under the age of 24 . In this direct-service Lab , participants will have the rewarding opportunity to give back to our IC 2017 host community by participating in hands-on activities to serve the Greater Dallas Homeless Community . Activities will include providing lunch to local men and women experiencing homelessness , engaging with community members and helping the local shelter better serve their residents . Lifeguard Training , Aaron Family Jewish Community Center of Dallas Have you ever thought about spending a summer by the pool while also being on guard to help save lives ? No matter the time of year or where you are from , knowing the basics of water safety is a critical skill that looks great on a resume . This session will get you into the pool to illustrate the signs of drowning or distress in water that can be utilized when swimming , fishing , or even going to a water park . You ' ll also participate in a hands-on certification class for lifeguards . Make sure to bring your swimsuit !
