THE SIX FOLDS The diversity of our programming is what makes the BBG experience so unique. Activities at all levels are built around six programming areas, called “Folds.” The Six Folds are Jewish Heritage, Community Service, Social Action, Recreation, Creativity and Sisterhood. These folds are often combined to create more dynamic programming. Community Service  emphasizes the value of tikkun olam, repairing the world. Community service can be either direct or indirect. Direct service involves hands-on service, for example throwing a holiday party at an elderly home or cooking at a soup kitchen. Indirect service entails participating in service without necessarily coming into contact with the community being served, including fundraising, food/clothing drives or making crafts kits for kids in a hospital. Direct or indirect service can be incorporated into any  event. Social Action This fold aims to educate members about the world around us and various challenges facing the global community. Social action also includes advocacy, raising awareness and speaking up for issues that affect our members. This programming should be meaningful and interactive. 38
