What made you decide to play bass?
I loved the feel of the instrument against my
body when laying down a grove. It all started
when a band I was a keyboardist for needed a
bassist for upcoming gigs. I picked up a red
Soundgear and played my first gig a few weeks
later and never looked back.
How/Where did you learn to play?
At first, I studied via private lessons with a
great local bassist, Wolf Wein (who I ended up
marrying). Then at the Bass School Munich,
the Academy of Music in Vienna, University
of Miami, as well as the University of South
Florida. I also studied with Kai Eckhardt, and
attended camps with Victor Wooten, Chuck
Rainey, Steve Bailey and many others.
Who are your musical inspirations, both
male and female?
Too many to list…
From Bach to Jaco, Michael Manring to Chuck
Rainey, Bruce Hornsby to Phillip Glass, Phil
Lesh to Chris Squier. I love all kinds of music,
including Funk, Rock, Blues, World-music,
film scores and am influenced by all sorts
of instrumentalists and vocalists… also on
the bass, MeShell Ndegeocello, Carol Kaye,
Esperanza and Tal.
