barnes BULLETS ® was founded by Fred Barnes in 1932 and has been producing premium projectiles ever since. In 1974, Randy and Coni Brooks purchased the business and built it into an internationally recognized brand name. Markets include handloaders who buy bullets through retail channels and many ammunition manufacturers. For the commercial market, Barnes loads its own bullets into premium hunting ammunition branded VOR-TX®, and TAC-XPD™ Defense Ammunition for personal protection. In 1985, Randy Brooks conceived the design of the first all-copper bullet, eliminating lead. Upon hitting a soft target, the open-tip bullet expands into four concentric petals that form an “X”. In the last 25 years, the patented X Bullet® design has progressed through a number of updates, now providing the most advanced accuracy, penetration and reliability available. Because there is no jacket to separate, the bullet stays together, tracks straight, and retains its weight even after penetrating intermediate barriers. Barnes offers over a dozen other styles of bullets to address almost every conceivable need. For over 10 years, a Barnes-built .50 BMG bullet held the world accuracy record, a 2.6” spread for five shots at 1,000 yards. PRODUCTS RESTRICTED TO MILITARY, GOVERNMENT AGENCY, AND POLICE PURCHASE ONLY Among many projects for the US military, Barnes has participated in a project to design and fabricate a guided 50 BMG bullet. State crime labs, federal agencies, military customers, movie production crews and private business all turn to Barnes for expert ballistics services. Barnes built an expanded facility in Mona, Utah, and moved into it in April of 2009. This new facility has enabled the company to grow even faster. Barnes has a complete research and development department with sophisticated software; a full machine shop for making prototypes and tooling for production; bullet production; ammunition loading; and one of the most well-equipped private ballistics laboratories in the world. The ballistics lab is used for internal ammunition and bullet development, production quality control, and it services numerous clients outside of the company through Barnes Ballistics Research. In December 2009, the Freedom Group purchased Barnes, bringing it into a group of more than a dozen leading shooting industry companies. Barnes continues to expand its products, services and markets while maintaining the highest standards of performance and qualit
