Baltimore Social Innovation Journal, Fall 2016 Fall 2016 | Page 4

Letter from David Warnock Founder and Chairman WARNOCK FOUNDATION 2017 is almost upon us and it’s a time of real reflection for Baltimore. The challenges and accomplishments of the past several years have accelerated the dialogue across Baltimore about ways to unlock our city’s potential. Critical to our progress are the new leaders who have emerged with innovative ideas, raw determination and big voices, all with a common goal to move our city forward in a positive direction. Among those innovative leaders making their mark on Baltimore are this season’s class of Baltimore Social Innovation Journal winners. Our 12 honorees are the latest Baltimore changemakers to join our network of social entrepreneurs, now more than 60 strong. The BSIJ Fall 2016 class includes artists, entrepreneurs, a horologist (look it up!), a symphony conductor, a logistics expert, a carpenter, and a fitness movement leader. Each winner has a unique story to tell and is on a mission to enrich Baltimore through his or her work. We’re excited that admired local writer and media personality, Lisa Simeone, teamed up with us to bring their narratives to life, capturing their unique spirits and perspectives. It’s an honor for our team to play a small part in helping these innovators go to the next level in their impact on Baltimore. Please join us as we celebrate these amazing individuals. Warm regards, David Warnock pg. 5
