The fact is , musicians and the music industry can spout all day long about how it ’ s “ about the fans ” and we ’ re “ so grateful for the fans ” and on and on ... but if you ’ re not showing the fans that ’ s actually true , then those fans are not going to open their wallets .
Sure , expectations are bigger than a decade or two ago . Privacy seems to be more and more a thing of the past . You can lament , scoff , and watch your career die a slow , not-even-a-blip , death - OR you can get back in the pit with your fans and take a fucking selfie with their phone .
I guarantee you that fan will spend their last dollar on your concert t-shirt and be a fan for life .
Rock ‘ N ’ Roll can have new life by integrating social media and digital marketing into every aspect of how the musicians relate to their fans . Is Rock ‘ N ’ Roll dead ? Never .
Wondering if this framework applies to any business ? Of course it frikken does !
I talk to potential clients often , and I always ask them how they found their way to me . I get answers that range from my blog , to Pinterest / Instagram / Facebook , to word-of-mouth . They become “ aware ” of me and what I do , start following me , then an email or blog later down the line pushes them into wanting to connect and find out more about what I do and how we can work together . It ’ s never a straight line .
Having consistent follow-up and being personal is the key . When people sign up for one of my free downloads , they are taken to a thank you page that asks them to join my Facebook Group so I can get to know them and their needs better .
I have “ click to tweets ” set up that notify me when someone joins my free course or free resource library so I can personally thank them for joining my world .
With each new offering , platform , or campaign , thinking through your “ funnel ” and how to reach your audience personally will take you farther than every other half-assed small business out there wondering why no one is sharing their 20 % off Facebook post .
