Learning about baths was the first time I found that there are things outside of diet and exercise that can contribute to weight loss . And it can feel relaxing and comforting , rather than “ work ” and “ pain ”.
The second turning point was when I learned about Food Energetics . I love Food Energetics so much that it ’ s become the basis of what I teach as a health coach . And the easiest way I can describe it is using patterns in nature to bridge the gap between logical and intuitive eating .
For example , a banana grows in hot , tropical climates , and in Food Energetics is said to cool off the body in a hot climate . So if you live in an area where it ’ s snowing outside , then having bananas is probably not the best kind of energy or nutrition you want to give your body regardless of the nutritional content , because you don ’ t want to be cooling off your body in a cold environment .
I think a lot of modern diets are hard to understand because we think with our brains . We think that importing superfoods from the amazon is healthy because of nutrient density . And there isn ’ t necessarily harm in having foods that are high in nutrients from a different part of the world , but it might not make you feel the best you can - nor lose weight as easily - if you ’ re not helping your body acclimate to its own environment .
Once I started learning about food properties based on temperature , expansion vs contraction ( foods that uplift you vs calm you ), and low vs high stress , I started applying these concepts to food and lost 40 pounds without counting or measuring or monitoring myself . It was the first time I was able to follow my intuition based on what felt right for my body while also eating in a pattern that made sense with nature .
And I really wish more gals knew about this . Because as much as I wanted to look good in clothes , I also wanted to eat cake at a birthday party without worrying about calories or if I could “ afford it ” with a workout . I just wanted to have that Diet Devil on my shoulder who was taunting me on whether I had been “ good ” or “ bad ” to just go away . And Food Energetics was that missing piece of information that I needed . And now , I can honestly say that I completely , 100 % love myself .
So before you go on your next diet , ask yourself what your overall goal is ? Do you really want to follow meal plans every day for the rest of your life ? Do you want to train every day even if it means missing out on socialising ? Because if that is your goal , then great ! But if it ’ s not , and if you just want to be able to be healthy while also having flexibility and enjoy your life , then Food Energetics is likely where you want to look . apple
