With campuses spread across Ayrshire, work will start soon on a new £50 million campus in Hill Street, Kilmarnock – the single largest public sector investment the town has ever seen! The new campus will transform the centre of Kilmarnock, as well as creating skilled jobs and opportunities for students, local people and local suppliers in the construction industry. BA high Flyers Nine young British Airways aircraft mechanics are flying high after graduating from Ayrshire College on completion of their three-year Modern Apprenticeships. The newly qualified mechanics also graduated with an HNC Aircraft Engineering and they have all now got permanent jobs at British Airways Maintenance Group in Glasgow! Heather Dunk, Principal of Ayrshire College, said “These apprentices were amongst the first to graduate from Ayrshire College this year and are great examples of the exceptional talent of Ayrshire’s young people.” College partnership leads to jobs with Ryanair Ten Ayrshire College engineering students secured jobs with Ryanair after completing the Aircraft Sheet Metal Essentials course. Now employed as trainee sheet metal workers, they all studied at the C o l l e g e ’ s Supporting the Commonwealth Games Legacy There has been excellent take-up of Spectator Safety courses for the Commonwealth Games on offer from Ayrshire College in Ayr, Kilmarnock and Kilwinning. Individuals taking part will work towards qualifications in First Aid at Work, Door Supervision and Understanding Stewarding at Spectator Events. Training is free and the cost of attaining the SIA (Security Industry Authority) Licence is covered by the course which is available until April. Lisa cooks up a storm! Aeronautical Engineering Training Centre. The course was supported by the Employability Fund which is aimed at helping people into work. The College worked with Ryanair to design and deliver the 12 weeks handskills training in the workshop. At the end of the course, the students completed a two day practical assessment, supervised by Ryanair’s Maintenance Manager. @AyrshireColl Cooking for First Minister Alex Salmond and a host of national dignitaries at the Scottish Parliament has been the highlight of Lisa Mason’s time at Ayrshire College so far. With students from colleges across Scotland, Lisa, who is studying HNC Hospitality Management, served 230 guests a fantastic five-course menu. Lisa was a great ambassador for Ayrshire College. GSK recruits Ayrshire apprentices Five Ayrshire youngsters are looking forward to bright career prospects thanks to Glaxo SmithKline’s Process Manufacturing Apprenticeship Programme. They will serve the first year of their apprenticeship as full-time students at Ayrshire College and the final two years as employees of GSK, attending the College on day release. ayrshire-college www.ayrshire.ac.uk
