Musings….on Tarot Certification:

The month of December found me participating in two very different conversations about Tarot Certification. This is such a hotly debated subject that I still have a hard time wrapping my head around WHY it matters so much when really, it seems to come down to personal choice. I tend to sit back and listen during these debates. Of course I have my own opinion but, I will not argue with anyone over something that is a very personal decision. Each of us has the right to do as we wish-remember the code of ethics that most of us adhere to…the one about FREE WILL? Each of us also has the right to decide if a Tarot Organization is qualified to offer certification and to make an informed decision-without the influence of nasty, negative or outlandish remarks from those who don’t believe tarot certification is needed. The more I hear of the opposing arguments, the more convinced I am that those who oppose do not understand the real reasons someone would want to become certified.

Those of us who believe in free will need to speak up a bit more and do this in a way that encourages others to make their decisions based on what it is that they want to accomplish. There are endless reasons why people choose to be certified (or not) and it’s not my place-or anyone else’s to challenge these reasons. Don’t we want educated, confident and professional tarot readers? Some of the same people who will preach about how unnecessary certification is will also bitch about “bad tarot readers”. No matter which side of this controversy you happen to be on, the bottom line (once again my opinion) is we all have FREE WILL and we should never persecute someone for wanting to become a better, more educated and more confident tarot reader.
