Recognition for
Scorer Members
ECB ACO and the Scorer Committee have
sought, over time, to raise the profile and
the appreciation of scorers throughout the
game. In our opinion, scorers are the most
welcome and least recognised of all
participants in the game, and we have no
doubt that scorers can feel neglected and
very lonely at times. If you can align
yourself with this statement and want to
be recognised, then the ECB ACO
Supportive Development (SD) programme
is an option to consider.
SD is a recognised ECB ACO programme
for both scorers and umpires. Similar to
other vocational courses, the ECB ACO
programme involves building a simple
portfolio of evidence of competence in
scoring. Naturally, your scoring records
are a major part of your portfolio.
This portfolio should include: your
scoring records from matches; some
match planner sheets; and a summary of
any development points and learning as
you progress.
Wherever possible and practical, you
might seek to receive feedback from a
colleague on ways and means to improve
technique. When your portfolio is ready
for accreditation, your County Scorer
Officer (CSO) can arrange for a friendly
and relaxed one-to-one meeting to discuss
your portfolio.
•
scoring records (the actual
records can be used and do not
need to be duplicated)
•
match planners x 10
•
self-evaluation sheets, recording
feedback, learning or
development points
•
any formal observations a
colleague conducts or that have
been requested.
The documents to assist you in building
your portfolio are available via your CSO.
Finally, a one-to-one meeting with an
ECB ACO assessor should be arranged
to review your portfolio. We call this a
Professional Discussion (PD); a two-way
communication about you and the
contents of your portfolio, with the aim
of accrediting you with a relevant ACO
qualification. If you wish to register for
the 2016 season, contact your CSO for
more details.
