This was revealed by Dr Yaacob Ibrahim, Minister for Communications and Informa- tion, at the opening ceremony of imbX2017 (which encompasses BroadcastAsia, Com- municAsia and EnterpriseIT), Asia’s largest infocomm and media exhibition-cum-con- ference, at the Marina Bay Sands on Tuesday. “Given the quickening pace of digital in- novation worldwide, we need to accelerate our own digital transformation to prepare our people and businesses for the future,” the minister said. “We need to develop strong digital industries in their own right, and we need to catalyse their transformation of other industries to spur productivity and yield new synergies.” Dr Yaacob’s words, stressing upon digi- MEDIA STORAGE MADE SIMPLE Grass Valley Lunch Workshop Today at 12pm Suite #311, Visit Booth #42Q-05 talisation as a key driver of future growth, were synchronous with one of the country’s [email protected] major goals of becoming the world’s first Smart Nation. In a panel discussion entitled Taking a deep dive into the prac- ticalities of implementing IP work- flows, which took place on the first day of BroadcastAsia2017 at the Broadcast IP Theatre, the four OVERSEAS VISITORS panellists addressed some of the key issues and concerns surrounding the transition to IP, particularly for broadcasters in Asia-Pacific. Calling the transition to IP an “inevitable” one, Dr Amal Punchi- hewa, director, technology and innovation, Asia-Pacific Broadcast- ing Union (ABU), explained that the move from SDI to IP would be largely driven by cost, and this would in turn lead to new business alignments. He continued: “IP delivery is now slowly maturing even as we’ve been talking about over-the-top (OTT) viewing. However, IP can now also be used for production, and what is important is how we can implement IP on the production side.” Dr Ahmad Zaki Mohd Salleh, group general manager, engineer- ing, Media Prima, agreed with Dr Amal’s point on cost, and elaborated: on your phone to any APB’s staff and simply drop your name card and be present at 5pm for a chance to win an Apple watch.
