APEX: CRIS BRUCH
PORTLAND ART MUSEUM
1219 SW PARK AVE.
Washington artist Cris Bruch’s new sculptural work is informed by his observation
of Midwestern farms on cross-country
journeys. Building upon seemingly mundane structures, he imbues each object
with ideas of personal and historical
identity. Abstract in idea but familiar in
form, these new pieces speak to growth in
America’s heartland and the effect of rural
and urban society on our observations of
that space. [THROUGH MARCH 22]
COURTNEY KEMP:
YOUTH & PROGRESS
PORTLAND CENTER STAGE ARMORY GALLERY
128 NW 11TH AVE.
Ditch Projects alumna and multidisciplinary artist Courtney Kemp brings
new work to Portland Center Stage’s
Armory Gallery. Her practice, while
rooted in metals and installation,
explores new ideas of construction and
space as it relates to both traditional
formal inquiries, as well as feminist
values. A faculty member at the Oregon
College of Art and Craft, Kemp segues
between a craft-based focus on material
and a conceptual approach to building
and exhibition. [THROUGH MARCH 15] .
