cars . I start running towards the scene . The poor little red fish truck was hit by a larger truck over night . The little red fish truck was in shambles . To make things worse , later in the day the generator to the fish truck malfunctioned and caught on fire ! The little red food truck went up in flames ! It was a crazy hectic day that I ’ ll never forget . We have never had another food truck since the smoking hot red fish truck of 2007 .”

ART DECO WEEKEND 2011
“ I felt a warm glow from within when I walked into the new and grand exhibit hall in the Art Deco Welcome Center building . The building had been waiting so long to be glamorized . And now , not only were the walls sparking white and the walls and ceiling casting sunny rays throughout , but the furniture within made it seem like a museum worthy of all the people lined up to see it . It felt so good to see it all come together , beautiful Art Deco furnishings in a beautiful restored building in the beautiful sunlight . It was the beginning of a new era of Art Deco Weekends .”

ART DECO WEEKEND CLASSIC CAR SHOW
“ I always love to see the classic cars at Art Deco Weekend . I know nothing really about cars but the designs from the first half of the 20th Century are so flamboyant they just put you in a fun state of mind . My first Art Deco Weekend as an MDPL employee was in 2012 , but I ’ d been coming to the festival since 2006 shortly after I first moved to Miami Beach . Until I worked on the festival I had no idea how much effort it took to get the classic cars to South Beach . Mel Mann , of the Antique Automobile Club of Amer- ica-South Florida Region , is an unpaid volunteer . He organizes the show because he loves classic cars and Art Deco Weekend . He does such an amazing job contacting the owners and getting them to come out every year . The cars add such a dimension to the festival . It ’ s a great way to educate the public about historic design styles . The Classic car Show is always one of my favorite events at Art Deco Weekend , and this year is their 20th anniversary of participating in Art Deco Weekend !”

ART DECO WEEKEND 2013
“ My favorite memory was from the 2013 Art Deco Weekend . We invited the Greater Miami Festivals and Events Association ( GMFEA ) members for a Behind the Scenes Tour of our parade , which we decided to have on the Friday evening that year . Well , it started raining , so I was worried GMFEA wouldn ’ t have a great night . However , it turned into the best night ever ! The GMFEA group was invited to join the government officials for champagne and appetizers before the parade started inside the Park Central Hotel . The rain stopped just long enough for the parade , so the big crowds and the GMFEA group were able to see the whole parade . The rain started again right after the parade and right before the bands were set to perform , so we had to cancel the live music that night . However , the GMFEA group was then invited to the Cardozo for the “ After Parade VIP Reception ” where they enjoyed more cocktails and food . Then our sponsor Soul Cachaca ( Brazilian Rum ) invited the GMFEA group and other people into their VIP tent for cocktails and live music . Soul Cachaca had invited some of the musicians that were canceled due to rain into the VIP tent to play . The ADW , staff , volunteers , VIPs , guests and the GMFEA group had a great evening at the Soul Cachaca tent . The Executive Director of GMFEA said it was the best Behind the Scenes Tour they ever had to this day ! Plus , the rain stopped and the street was packed with people for the last few hours of the evening , so our vendors were happy too .”
