MIAMI BEACH VISUAL MEMOIRS PROJECT

The Miami Beach Visual Memoirs Project concluded its 5th year of work in October 2016 . The final interview of the year was with renowned writer Edna Buchanan . She spoke about her work as a journalist on the Miami Beach Daily Sun and author of more than a dozen books . This past year we added 15 additional interviews to the archive housed as part of the FIU Digital Library collection , as well as promotional excerpts and highlights available on the MiamiBeachVisualMemoirs . com website . We have recorded over 100 individuals as a part of this project . To see these interviews and view some of the excerpts please visit www . miamibeachvisualmemoirs . com .

The Miami Beach Visual Memoirs Project is also partnering with 10 other non-profit educational institutions in the creation of the www . ON-MiamiBeach . com web portal . This site utilizes even more material from the archive and creates the potential of its utilization by other South Florida institutions . We invite you to visit the site and explore local history .
The Project completed an educational film about Barbara Capitman and her impact on Beach preservation during this year . The film contains many excerpts from the archival interviews , as well as original material filmed with Andrew Capitman at the dedication of the Barbara Capitman Memorial in Lummus Park . George Neary , Director of Cultural Tourism with the Miami Convention and Visitors Bureau , summarizes Barbara ’ s legacy . You will also see footage of Barbara herself speaking about her crusade .
