For the 2016 TMEA convention , the Martin Chamber Singers , under the direction of Kay Owens , performed , “ Alleluia ” by Jake Runestad , “ Ave Maria ” by Javier Busto , “ Nyon Nyon ” by Jake Runestad , “ O Nata Lux , Light Born of Light ” by Kevin A . Memley , “ White Winter Hymnal ” by Alan Billingsley , “ In the Silence ” by Jacob Narverud and “ It Takes a Village ” by Joan Szymko .
The Martin Chorale , Symphony Orchestra and Wind Symphony Band will have the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall on Monday , March 21 , 2016 .

Martin High School
For the fourth time in Martin High School history , the choral department had a group perform at the Texas Music Educators Association annual convention , an honor that only went to six high school choirs across the state this year . The Martin Chamber Singers was the only chamber choir to perform at the convention in San Antonio in mid-February .
The Beckham Elementary Blazers Honor Choir was also invited to perform as one of eight invited groups in the elementary division .
From its start as a 32-student single choir when the school opened in 1982 , the Martin choral department has grown 12-fold with 385 students involved in 11 performing groups . In addition to performing at TMEA in 1995 , 2005 , 2008 and 2016 , Martin choirs have performed at three National ACDA conventions ( 1997 , 2005 and 2013 ) and have received more than 100 Sweepstakes awards in UIL Concert and Sight-Reading contests .
