Barnett Junior High
STEM-TACULAR
Barnett Junior High School has partnered with the Links,
Inc. and the Boys and Girls Clubs of Arlington to present
2016 STEM-TACULAR to AISD students. STEMTACULAR consists of monthly two-day STEM Summits
during the months of January, February and April. (March
is excluded due to Spring Break.) Students meet on the third
Tuesday of the month for a one-hour lesson after school, and
the following Saturday for an extensive learning activity
or field trip that is related to the Tuesday lesson topic. The
Links, Inc. provides all materials, admission fees, healthy
snacks, breakfast and lunches for the students along with
accompanying lessons on nutrition provided by a medical
doctor/Link member. The Boys and Girls Club of Arlington
provide transportation for the students. Other supporting
partners of STEM-TACULAR include the Arlington
Museum of Art, Perot Museum and the Dallas World
Aquarium. STEM topics include:
Students deconstructed various machines and technology
devices and try to reassemble them, while learning about
eco-friendly recycle options.
April: All About Water Worldwide: Fresh water, Food
Source, and National/International Legislative Concerns

January: Art and Its Relationship to STEM

Saturday Activity: Hands-on art activity taught by local artist/
sculptor DeMario Davis and local artist and Sam Houston
High School graduate Chris “Elias” Wilson. Students learned
how symmetry, geometry, algebra and architecture are all
related to painting and sculpting. Students applied their new
learning by painting paintings and designing and building
sculptures made from various materials.
