McNutt Elementary Dedication

An overflow crowd gathered on Jan . 21 to honor Sandy McNutt and officially dedicate the new Sandy McNutt Elementary . McNutt Elementary is approximately 112,000 square feet with a collaboration space and faculty workroom for each classroom block that is separated by grade level .
Sandy McNutt has spent nearly four decades working with thousands of incredible administrators , colleagues , parents and children . McNutt received her bachelor ’ s from the University of Texas at Arlington , master ’ s from Texas Wesleyan College and administrative certification from the University of North Texas . She began her teaching career in the Arlington ISD in 1979 , teaching at Ditto Elementary . While at Ditto , she taught first , second and fourth grades . After nine years in the classroom , she became the assistant principal at Starrett Elementary , later taking the same position at Moore Elementary , both new schools at the time of her appointments . McNutt was also an adjunct professor at the University of Texas at Arlington , teaching undergraduate students pursuing a degree in education . She served as principal of Wood Elementary from 1992 to 2008 . She is currently the head of lower school at Trinity Valley School in Fort Worth . She is continuing her passion to lead children in this K-4 environment .
McNutt feels humbled and honored to have received many accolades during her professional career . She was chosen as Kiwanis Woodrow Counts Elementary Teacher of the Year her fourth year of teaching . She was the recipient of the Terrific Teacher of Texas Award ( state PTA award ) and was a two-time recipient of the PTA Life Member Award . She was named ATPE Administrator of the Year . McNutt was nominated for Arlington Woman of the Year and was chosen in 2010 as a Great Woman of Texas by the Fort Worth Business Press .
McNutt is the second-oldest of seven children , many of whom have been positively impacted by the following schools in Arlington : Arlington , Bowie and Martin high schools ; Boles , Gunn and Young junior highs ; and Beckham , Corey , Ditto , Dunn , Little , Moore , Short , Starrett and Wood elementaries . Her siblings and extended family have served the AISD in a myriad of ways : as diagnosticians , reading specialists , counselors , elementary and junior high teachers , administrators and students .
McNutt ’ s life has been enhanced greatly by thousands of remarkable individuals in the Arlington ISD . She is thankful to each and every teacher , administrator , parent and child who has played a part in her career . Each one has left an imprint on her heart forever . A special thank you to Bob Windham , her first principal , who believed in her as a new teacher as she began her career in Arlington .
Thoroughly realizing the impact the AISD has had on her life , she desires to continue serving the district in many different venues . McNutt firmly believes that to whom much is given , much is expected . She has been blessed abundantly through the AISD .
