Arlington ISD Announces 2015
Accountability Ratings
The Texas Education Agency rated the Arlington ISD
Met Standard in its release of ratings under the state’s
accountability system, which utilizes four indices – student
achievement, student progress, closing performance
gaps and postsecondary readiness. This year, there were
increased target scores in Index 1 and significant changes
in the state testing program and in the technicalities of the
state accountability system
Individual campuses receive ratings of either Met Standard
or Improvement Required and have the ability to earn
distinction designations. All campus levels can earn
distinctions for reading/ELA, science, top 25 percent
student progress, top 25 percent closing performance gaps
and post-secondary readiness. Both junior high schools
and high schools can also earn a distinction designation
in math and social studies. (Arlington Collegiate High
School was not eligible for a distinction designation in
social studies.) Forty of the district’s 70 campuses eligible
to receive distinctions received at least one designation:
• 5 of 7 high schools
• All 12 junior highs
• 23 of 51 elementaries
“I am proud of the work of our staff and students that has gone
into the progress and success of our district,” Superintendent
Dr. Marcelo Cavazos said. “I am especially proud of
Sam Houston High School, Newcomer Center and Webb
30 Arlington School & Family - August/September
Elementary for meeting standard this year after being rated
Improvement Required last school year and of the four
schools that received all possible distinction designations, up
from two schools last year.”
Arlington Collegiate High School (six out of six
distinctions), Bailey and Gunn junior highs (seven out of
seven distinctions), and Butler Elementary (five out of five)
each received all possible distinction designations, and
the following schools received at least half of their eligible
distinctions: Arlington High School (four out of seven),
Seguin High School (six out of seven), Ferguson Junior High
(six out of seven), Nichols Junior High (five out of seven),
Ousley Junior High (six out of seven), Shackelford Junior
High (five out of seven), Ditto Elementary (three out of five),
Duff Elementary (three out of five) and Pearcy Elementary
(three out of five).
According to the TEA, 71 of the 74 campuses that are
eligible for ratings are rated as Met Standard. Adams, Berry
and Wimbish elementaries missed Indices 1 and 3. †
