Someone once told me, “If God grants you the time, you
can always make more money. But, no matter how much
money you make, you can’t buy back a single minute.” As
our oldest was preparing to enter kindergarten, we made the
decision for me to leave the bank to be fully available to my
family. I am grateful for every minute and when dinner is
unsalvageable, there is always delivery pizza.
WHAT MAKES YOU SO PASSIONATE ABOUT
THE AISD?
Arlington is our home. At the risk of sounding cliche, these
young people will create our future. As a mom, I want
the best school experience for my sons and for their most
audacious dreams to be attainable. I believe there isn’t a
single child who is deserving of less.
GIVE US A BRIEF BIO OF YOUR CAREER.
My first experience in theater was at six years old, playing
a baby spider in Charlotte’s Web at Casa Manana and that
began my lifelong love of theater. Although my bachelor’s
degree is in communications, my first job after completing
my degree was managing the office at Circle Theatre for
minimum wage. I even returned to school to study theater
where I met Brad in the green room of the UTA theater
department. Until we had our first son, I lived with one
foot in theater and the other working to supplement my
income. I waited tables before finding success in what would
become a ten year career in public relations, marketing
and sales. In 2009, when our first son was an infant, I
went to work at Bank of America in mortgage refinance. I
had just completed training when we were restructured to
service mortgage modifications. It was an unexpected but
welcomed blessing. I embraced the change and blossomed
in the corporate environment. I began as an underwriter,
moved up to quality control, then team lead and ultimately
became an assistant vice-president managing teams, projects
and process development in a matrixed environment. I
spent five years at Bank of America and truly enjoyed the
people and my work, but our boys were growing up quickly.
There are exciting things happening in the AISD right
now, and there is also still room for improvement. Progress
makes educational excellence an ever moving target and
the diversity in our city challenges us to find ways to engage,
inspire and empower each student. It’s a tall order, and I’m
excited and humbled to have the opportunity to work with
such a passionate, dedicated team. †
