Arlington ISD Education Foundation Awards Teacher Grants The Arlington ISD Education Foundation recently distributed 10 grants totaling $35,910.93 to 11 AISD campuses.Some of the projects funded include a collaborative $5,000 Dipert Family Fund Junior High Battle of the Books grant between Gunn, Boles and Ousley junior highs; a $5,000 Covered in Chrome: STEM in the Classroom grant at Ousley Junior High; a Star-Telegram Digital Communications Center grant at Dunn Elementary for $5,490.04; and an After-School Photography Club for students at Johns Elementary. The Arlington High School Alumni Association also sponsored a $2,492.60 grant through the Foundation for AHS teacher Kim Buchmeyer to receive funding for her project entitled Creating Collegiality in the Math Classroom. Buchmeyer’s intent is to utilize the money to create an aesthetic, more spacious environment for her math students to learn. Other named grant awards included a $2,000 Diane Patrick Grant for Bailey Junior High and a $5,000 Harold Patterson grant 36 Arlington School & Family - April/May 2015 for Wood Elementary’s Wildcat Listening Station. “The Arlington ISD Education Foundation is delighted to be able to help provide support for our outstanding teachers and students,” said Brian White, executive director. “We want to help our educators provide opportunities to our students that are not covered through state funding.” White noted that the foundation also plans on distributing an additional $35,000 in grants to the Arlington ISD educators in late April or May. Throughout its 20 years, the Foundation has distributed more than $1.2 million in grants to the AISD campuses. The mission of the Arlington ISD Education Foundation is to serve the students of the Arlington ISD by fulfilling extraordinary educational needs and initiatives. “The foundation plans on recognizing those who have left their legacy in the Arlington ISD throughout the years and creating more named endowments,” White stated. “We want broad-based community support, and to let people know what we’re doing so we can give back even more to our classrooms.” †
