For the first time in two years, the Seguin High School band received the highest
score possible at a recent UIL competition. This was important because the band
had not received such a thing in two years.
“It was shocking, but it felt well deserved,” marimba player junior Angel Chairez
said. “We got what we earned, and we worked so hard for it.”
The band was graded for the music they performed, how well they performed it
and how they worked together as a band. Every judge at the competition gave them
ones in every section possible. This distinction is called a sweepstakes.
Junior Leo Quintero said he was very excited about the outcome.
“At first I was nervous because in the past we haven’t done so well in UIL,”
Quintero said. “But it felt so awesome, and I was impressed with how we did.”
Quintero wasn’t the only person that
loved the results.
“I was so proud of my students,” assistant
band director Grady Niblo said. “They
have these grueling practices after
school but I’m glad they do it because it
definitely worked out for the best. Since
it had been so long, I feel like they need
this accomplishment; I feel like it was
reassuring to say the least.”
Niblo said the band’s effort was the
best.
“They honestly couldn’t have done any
better,” Niblo said. †
