Despite several initiatives over the last 5 years to increase retention rates (Christensen 2014), it has not been possible to achieve a high retention rate for the Greenlandic students. The rate is at the same level as that of the Greenlandic students in other long- and medium-long higher education programs in Greenland and Denmark, which according to Statistics Greenland (2014) can be estimated between 40 and 50%. That the initiatives have not led to higher retention rates may be due in part to the fact that the past five years have produced a two- or three-fold increase in the enrollment in Arctic Technology, with an increasing proportion of Danish students.
