Sustainability
Danpalon Multiwall policarbonate sheets were
used for strip skylights due to their thermal
value and light transmission capabilities,
which enabled a reduction in electrical usage.
Thermo treated wax pine was used for
the entrance blade walls. This product is a
sustainable South African timber with a 15
year guarantee.
White Novatexi metal sheeting was used in
order to reduce heat gain and increase sun ray
reflection. Biodegradable products such as
chipboard and drywall were extensively used
in the project. Solar control glazing and sun

louvres were used on north facing elevations
to reduce heat gain.
Conclusion
The main challenge was consolidating an
architectural language in terms of materials
and forms and keeping track on the design
concept in a project that behaved in a
constantly changing and evolving manner.
Even though Redefine Properties was the
client, the nature of retail design is that the
ultimate client is the tenant and the challenge
is to combine their needs and expectations
with that of the developer.
