The Citadel in Claremont has achieved a 4 Star Green Star - Office Design v1 rating . The building is part of a long continuum of corporate office buildings by Louis Karol . However , what distinguishes Citadel from so many of our buildings , is that it is not situated in the CBD of a major city but rather in a suburban context of Claremont , opposite a large shopping centre . The design of the building has thus needed to create its own sense of scale and of civic importance .
The building , developed by Atterbury and Catalyst , is the headquarters of Citadel , one of South Africa ’ s foremost wealth managers , and thus , a highly complex building for a blue-chip tenant . Louis Karol were the principal agents of the project as well as being the architects . What was of particular importance to Louis Karol was the control of both the documentation process and the construction on site in order to ensure a beautifully detailed building , delivered on time and on-budget .
Of particular importance has been the use of Revit software and the move towards its integration into the BIM environment . At the recent Construction IT Summit in Johannesburg , in a keynote address , I ( Dr Eitan Karol ) addressed the subject of “ BIM and the search for the Gesamtkunstwerk ”, which I believe is of seminal importance in
