Building Opportunities: BERTRAND LEADS ESSILOR CANADA - By Sarah McGoldrick - IN FEBRUARY OF 2015 ESSILOR ANNOUNCED THE APPOINTMENT OF PIERRE BERTRAND AS THE NEW PRESIDENT OF ESSILOR CANADA, TAKING OVER THE ROLE FROM MARC TERSIGNI. AS A RESULT, TERSIGNI TOOK ON THE JOB OF COUNTRY STRATEGIC OFFICER. Bertrand has been involved in the eyewear industry for several years joining Essilor of America in January 2011 and until recently serving as Vice President of Marketing (Crizal, Xperio UV, No-Glare, Merchandising and Special Projects for EOA. Prior to the optical industry, Bertrand was the Regional Strategy Director for Pfizer Pharmaceuticals. In his new role, Bertrand said he is 28 www.spineoptics.com looking forward to taking on new projects and challenges as Essilor continues to build on its recent business partnerships. "LAST YEAR (2014) WAS THE BEST YEAR FOR ESSILOR IN HISTORY" “We are looking to grow the marketing and develop the brands through direct to consumer programs,” he said in an interview with Optical Prism during Vision Expo East in New York. According to NASDAQ figures, in 2014, Essilor’s consolidated revenue totaled 5.67 billion euros, which was up by 13.4per cent year-over-year excluding the currency effect. Bertrand noted part of the ongoing growth of the company will involve helping the ECPs grow along with it. He said the recent Think About Eyes campaign has helped ECPs bring a broader awareness of eyecare to their patients. “Our promise to ECPs is to continue to support them through exclusive brands and to help raise awareness at the consumer level. He said 2015 will see an omnichannel approach with increased support at all levels including business management support as well as a sales and lab network. “Last year (2014) was the best year for Essilor in history,” he said adding the company will continue to support recent business deals such as Coastal. “We are looking to find new ways to grow the market and explore many other opportunities."
