Woody and his wife Tamela attend the Kentucky Derby occasionally . Most know Woody Folsom as the owner of one of the largest car dealerships in the Southeast. However, many may be unaware of his other passions including his farm, Circle F Farms located on Prentiss Road in Baxley; hunting; truck pulling and of course, his family. Woody actually started out washing cars at Lamco Motors in Baxley until he talked the owners into letting him try sales. Woody then moved to Cothern-Varnedoe. At first, the owners wouldn’t let Woody actually close the sales. They relented, but the first customer they let him try to close was asking for a deal seemingly impossible to anyone else. When Woody successfully closed that sale, it convinced the owners that he knew what he was doing. After Woody started closing his own deals, sales at Cothern-Varnadore skyrocketed. In 1996, Country Proud Chevrolet in Hazlehurst was put on the market for sale, and Folsom decided it was time for him to pursue his own dealership under his name. He quickly gained the support of many financiers in Baxley and Hazlehurst, and purchased Country Proud. Woody’s reputation for making deals followed him. Previously, sales projections for the dealership had been 7 new cars per month. Showcasing Your Community’s Personality 43
