According to taxes collected from the motels in Baxley, revenues were up during the month. Official vendor/site fees help the Golden Isles Parkway Association, Inc. (GIPA) and Tourism pay for advertisement for this event. GIPA is comprised of volunteers dedicated to promoting the vast potential for tourism along Highway 341; as such, no organization profits from any vendor fees collected during the “Peaches to the Beaches” Yard Sale. The Golden Isles Parkway Association, Inc. was originally formed in 2003 to promote travel and economic development along Highway 341 from Barnesville, Georgia to Brunswick, GA. The Golden Isles Parkway’s purpose is to support the current expansion of the Golden Isles Parkway located in the State of Georgia, which will enhance the economic development of the State of Georgia. “Peaches to the Beaches” Yard Sale is the second full weekend in March annually, rain or shine. Vendors along the route sold a wide variety of items including antiques, vintage items, depression glass, clothing, kitchen items, tools, baby items, locally made handcrafted items like regional foods, wooden swings, hand carved leather belts, soaps, and good old fashioned junk. Some sites along the route were multi-organizations which included individual residents, churches, or nonprofits like the Boy Scouts. Special vendor signs identify each participating site. Yard Sale sites are located in Barnesville, Roberta, Fort Valley, Perry, Hawkinsville, Eastman, Chauncey, Helena, McRae, Lumber City, Hazlehurst, Baxley, Odum, Jesup, and Brunswick. Baxley’s Yard Sale sites are located at the Baxley Chamber of Commerce, Baxley City Gym, Appling County Court House and the Baxley City Hall. Vendors in Baxley can participate by renting a 15x15 space at official sites for just $30 for two days. Vendors can also rent an official yard sign from Baxley Tourism to be placed at their choice of location for $30 per yard sign, or rent a banner to become an official site (6 or more vendors) for $180 per banner. Event organizers encourage shoppers to only shop sites with official “Peaches to the Beaches” signage. This helps support vendors that contribute to the success of this event and allows it to continue from year to year. Mark the calendar now for the 2016 Peaches to Beaches-March 11 & 12, 2016.
