The curriculum is embedded in the police academy for recruit officers in addition to regular in-service for veteran staff .
Training Center personnel continued providing instruction in Procedural Justice to staff and volunteers in the organization . Concepts such as fairness , voice , impartiality and transparency are cornerstones to providing equitable service to our community members . Instructors at the Training Center are also responsible for providing annual in-service training to all officers . In 2016 , over 5,174 registrants attended classes in a variety of subject areas pertaining to law enforcement .
The Personnel and Recruiting Unit conducted Facebook Live events to interact with prospective applicants and enhance recruiting efforts . Officers also strengthened relationships with local , regional , and out of state universities to attract qualified people . The department ran two academy classes consisting of 40 recruit officers hired by the unit . Through dedicated efforts to recruit officers from diverse backgrounds , the unit hosted several hiring days where potential applicants performed physical agility tests . Successful completion of the
physical agility components allows applicants to progress through the hiring process .
The Hometown Recruiting program had a banner year and continues to lay the foundation for the future of homegrown talent . Through the partnership between the department and Arlington ISD , students in the AISD police academy participate in a capstone course which exposes them to the role of local law enforcement , emerging trends in policing , and how APD conducts policing in the community . Students attended department sanctioned ceremonies and volunteered with social service organizations to give back to the community .
