Family Medicine Residency Mission Statement: “Providing Quality Patient Care and Service to our Community in an Innovative Educational Environment” Mount Carmel has provided a strong, academically based Family Medicine Residency Program since 1975. This program has produced a diverse group of family physicians who are leaders in the medical field throughout Ohio and the United States. Additionally, we provide a wide range of clinical experiences to prepare residents for their chosen practice environment. Inpatient management and core subspecialty rotations are emphasized in the first year, with progressive experiences in the outpatient and subspecialty settings emphasized in the second and third years. The Mount Carmel Family Medicine Residency is a comprehensive, three-year, fully accredited program. We offer comprehensive, family-centered medical care for all age groups, including pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric medicine. Residents are trained primarily at Mount Carmel St. Ann’s, a community-based hospital which provides our residents with an unopposed learning environment. Chad Braun, MD Program Director At Mount Carmel, we emphasize community service. A core value we believe in is providing care to the poor and underserved. Residents have many opportunities to help people in the Columbus area and abroad. One of our established programs is an active mobile coach outreach program. This program is headed by Dr. John O’Handley, a Family Medicine faculty member who is a previous residency program director. Our residents serve an active role in providing much-needed care to patients on the mobile coach while further developing patient care and interaction skills. John Weiss, MD Program Director Finally, we foster a culture of community engagement by encouraging our physicians to get involved and make a difference in their communities.
