Physical Fitness Examination at Moody AFB Military Career Fair TACT gives a demonstration of cell extraction technique during the Military Career Fair at Ft. Stewart. Staff training provided in FY 2015: • Academy Operations completed 11 Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT) programs, including one off-site program, providing the state with 1,985 new Correctional Officers. In addition, two Executive Basic Officer Programs allowed 11 non-certified GDC senior staff to become certified as officers. • Leadership Development Unit (LDU) provided advanced and specialized training to over 5,500 staff in 60 Leadership Development programs and 169 Offender Rehabilitation, Health Care, and Facility programs. LDU also offered expanded opportunities for E-Learning with the Georgia Corrections Automated Learning System’s (GCALS) first course, delivering an entire 8-hour in-service course online. • Special Operations Training delivered over 38 training programs to our front-line and supervisory staff, certifying 1,088 Officers in the use of the Taser Conducted Energy Weapon (CEW), Shock Shields, Pepper ball Projectors, OC, and other less-lethal devices. • Special Operations Training delivered 10 Advanced Perimeter Security programs to 345 Officers, enhancing their skills in the use of deadly force, escape prevention, and handling both vehicular and pedestrian perimeter incursions to prevent the introduction of contraband in this highly intensive and reality-based new course. • POST Unit created a new class designed to update Human Resources staff on best practices when using the POST Data Gateway including processing applications for BCOT, updating C-11s for personnel actions, selecting database reports, and processing waivers. They also gained an understanding of officer training and recertification requirements. The course was delivered to over 75 Human Resources specialists, as well as to the HR Managers’ Conference and the Warden’s Conference. • PREA Unit conducted 11 Compliance Manager workshops across the state as well as specialized training to include: two Sexual Assault Investigator sessions to 82 investigators, two Sexual Assault Response Team (SART) sessions to 400 employees, four County Warden roll-out sessions, and one Transitional Center/Probation Detention Center/Substance Abuse Treatment Center Superintendent roll-out sessions • Completed mandatory Asbestos Management Program training for Facilities staff. The training engaged 98 employees to include Facility Engineers, Maintenance Supervisors and Craftsman from numerous facilities. • Nine Basic Management Training, nine ePerformance Training, two Human Resources (HR) Manager’s Training, one HR Statewide Annual Training, and 14 Time and Labor Trainings were conducted. Key positions added in FY 2015 to assist in strengthening operations: • Upgraded the Institutional Investigator program from 12 investigative positions to 33 positions. This allows for an investigator to be onsite at each of our 33 state prisons. • Added an Assistant Coordinator and Analyst position to join the Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Agency Coordinator to assist with implementation and compliance efforts.
