Junior School Renovations

Spring 2016 saw the Junior School achieve a major milestone with the much-anticipated move into its newly renovated classrooms and Learning Commons ( library ) that integrates print and technology .
This latest phase of our Campus Master Plan has truly opened up an existing space in new ways , quickly demonstrating its ability to foster a real sense of togetherness . It begins with the building ’ s new central entrance which functions as a welcome arrival space in the Junior School for parents , students and other visitors alike . The sense of community extends to the existing Atrium where Junior School girls from grade 1 – 7 continue to convene in one place as they always have — at the building ’ s very centre .
The re-envisioned Junior School , the result of much discussion , careful planning and intentional design based on best learning practices , was meticulously guided by Susan Hutchison , director , Junior School . Fluid spaces and open hallways flow effortlessly between classrooms and communal areas , supporting collaborative teaching and discovery for students and staff alike .
Additional highlights of the new space include :
• a new Student Services area that combines counselling and learning resources in a shared space
• creative use of closed terraces which provide additional learning spaces
• a dedicated middle school science room
• two additional French language classrooms
• new grade 1 classrooms to help our youngest girls with their transition from the Early Childhood Education ( ECE ) Centre
In 2015 – 2016 , CHS achieved a significant objective in creating a Junior School building that encourages community , welcomes parents and brings students and teachers together in common spaces designed as a place where girls can learn , grow , play and be inspired . This real , thoughtful repurposing of space reflects a vision of which our entire Crofton House community can be extremely proud .
