HELPING DC RESIDENTS
GET AFFORDABLE
HEALTH CARE
In partnership with the Greater Washington
Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and DC Health
Link, the Carlos Rosario School enrolled more
than 300 eligible applicants into healthcare plans.
In recognition of these efforts on the last day of
healthcare sign-ups Vice President Joe Biden
made a surprise visit to the school.
Throughout the 2013-14 school year the School
also hosted a number of events to inform
students and community members about
affordable healthcare options. In March students
from the Carlos Rosario School Nurse Aide
Career Training Program and the citizenship
class attended a town hall meeting where
President Barack Obama discussed the role of
Latinos around the country in the new healthcare
legislation. And in October Congresswoman
Eleanor Holmes Norton hosted a town hall
meeting at the School to share information
with the more than 350 students and staff in
attendance.
“We saw a ripple effect take place. A student
enrolled with DC Health Link, and then went
home and brought back her family members and
neighbors to enroll,” said Allison R. Kokkoros,
Executive Director and CEO. “We are so
grateful to the DC Health Link team, the Greater
Washington Hispanic Chamber of Commerce,
and our partner organizations who went all out
to enroll every D.C. resident who needs health
care.”
