A
funding grant totalling $12,530 was approved last month for the Alliance of
Philippine Community Organisations Inc’s ‘Fill in the Gap’ project by the DOOLEYS
Lidcombe Catholic Club through its ClubGRANTS Category One Scheme.
THE ‘Fill in the Gap’ project
of APCO aims to empower 1650 years old refugees and newly arrived migrants from small
and emerging communities in
the Auburn LGA who cannot
avail of free trainings and services provided by Job Services
Australia.
Group workshops, one-onone mentoring, coaching and
drop-in assistance will be provided to assist clients in basic
information and job seeking
skills. At the end of the program, trainees should be able
to have heightened self-esteem in contacting potential
employers, participation in
community activities, reduced
employment-related anxiety,
improved hygiene and grooming, gained employment and
confidence in approaching
support services for assistance.
The ClubGRANTS Scheme
is a shared State GovernmentClub Industry Program, funded by a 2.25% gaming machine tax rebate provided by
the State Government to registered clubs with gaming machine profits in excess of $1
million per annum. It is expected that all projects funded will be completed by 2015.
This year, 108 applications
were lodged but only 41 projects are granted funding.
The DOOLEYS’ ClubGRANTS is the second funding grant received by APCO
after its successful application
for a Stream 1 project under
the previous federal government’s Building Multicultural Communities Program in
2013.
Dr Cen Amores, a retired
Lead Employment Consultant in the Job Services industry and Founding President
of APCO, spearheaded the
funding submission and will
be managing the project.
Meanwhile, APCO successfully secured free use to
a meeting room at Dooleys
Lidcombe Catholic Club. Ju-
lie Milsom, Community Relations Manager responded
positively to President Ruben
Amores’ request for the Filipino civic, charitable and humanitarian federation to have
regular use of a Board meeting room.
The club will waive room
hire for the APCO Board
meetings. Dooleys Lidcombe
was selected by the leading Filipino federation of organisations because it is among the
most popular and accessible
venues in greater Sydney.
