Sandoval Grabs Castillo ’ s Memorial cup

Ros Sandoval from Campbelltown and club captain of Phil-Oz Golf Inc . ( Pogi ) won as overall champion of the 2017 Thelma Castillo ’ s Memorial Cup organised by Philippine Australian Sports & Culture , Inc .
The tournament was held last month at the Hurstville Golf Course participated by 25 golfers . Ros scored stunning 41 stableford points using his playing handicap of 13 and ran away with the monumental trophy plus $ 150 cash for his unbeatable score .
“ I ’ m so happy to win this tournament for the first time after playing in this event since its inception six years ago ,” said an ecstatic Ros .
Division winners were Tippy Phathanak with 36 points ( CB ) for Division 1 and Chris Caraballo with 39 points for Division 2 . Both division winners received trophy plus $ 100 cash each .
Division runners up were Neil Narvais with 36 points for Division 1 and Arnel Zaguirre with 36 points for Division 2 . Both runners up received trophy plus $ 50 cash each .
The only lady participant , Cathy Wagner was awarded special prize of $ 50 plus trophy .
Nearest the pins , best drive and pitch and longest drive were awarded trophies and golf balls as follows : Tippy Phathanak ( Longest drive on hole 9 , 15 & NTP on hole 2 ), Manny E Castillo ( Drive & pitch on hole 5 ), Neil Narvais ( Drive & pitch on hole 10 ), and Arnel Zaguirre ( NTP on hole 6 ).
PASC Immediate Past President Manny Castillo acknowledged the support of his children Benny and Manny E Junior for donating cash prizes . He also thanked the support groups headed by Danny Elizes ( PASC Secretary ), Sue Lee for the food , Rey Saballa for the flights and Fred Bacucang for tabulating the scores .

Memorial cup was held in honour of Thelma Castillo , the lovely wife of Manny Castillo who died of stroke six years ago . Thelma was a golfer herself and assisted in the beauty pageant portion of the Grand Philippine Fiesta Kultura coordinated annually by PASC . The Castillo family sponsored this golf tournament annually .
MARTINEZ BROS GOLF CUP
The inaugural Martinez Bros Golf cup coordinated and organised by Tee-riffic Birdies-Puro Golf Social club held on February 11 at Rump Corp Golf course was won by Joey Mercado with his net score of 27.5 strokes .

Club President Toto Quintana presented the trophy and $ 100 cash prize for his unbeatable score .
Division winners with their respective scores were : Danny Martinez ( 31.1 ) for A , Mathew Rebulado ( 28.3 ) for B and Danny Garcia ( 28.0 ) for C . These winners were awarded with $ 50 cash each and individual trophies for their fantastic efforts .
Novelty hole winners awarded with sleeve of balls each were : Gerry Estera ( Longest drive # 1 ), Danny Garcia ( D & P # 2 ), Alvin Rebulado ( D & P # 3 ), Toto Quintana ( D & P # 4 ), Mathew Rebulado ( NTP # 5 ), Albert Abit ( D & P # 6 ), Benny Martinez ( NTP # 7 ) and Nico Valenton ( D & P # 8 ).

The awarding and sumptuous dinner with 30-kilo lechon and overflowing wines , beers and spirit were held at 5:30pm at the residence of Benny Martinez .
The inaugural Martinez Bros cup was held to celebrate the birthday of Benny Martinez and Danny Martinez which falls on February . They sponsored the tournament along with Benny Bacalla .
Meanwhile , watch for the next issue of this column for the final results of the 23nd Fil- Aussie Interstate Friendship golf tournament to be held in Manila on March 6-10 . Booked courses are Forest Hills , Canlubang , the Riviera and Eagle Ridge Golf & Country clubs with around 90 golfers coming from all over Australia now registered to play . For the first time Filipino golfers from Wellington , New Zealand are participating .
