Tell us a little bit about yourself?

I'm a human of the female variety, currently 23 years of age.

I'm a freelance makeup artist and photographer, and I'm studying graphic design at the moment.

If you could live anywhere in the world where would you?

I would live on The Magic School

bus so that I could use its magical transforming quality to travel the

world.

Did you study photography?

I studied at Damelin for two years.

How long have you been a photographer?

Five years.

Which photographers influenced you and/or your style?

I have many of these, but to keep this concise I'll mention only 2:

Kirsty Mitchell. I adore the worlds she creates and the effort that goes into the making of her sets and makeup/hair and wardrobe.

It's nice to see a photographer taking the effort to create as oppose to superimposing the model in a scene/stock image.

And Steve McCurry, I always wanted to be a photojournalist but I'm just not brave enough.

How would you describe your style?

Gosh, I really don't know...

What type of cameras do you shoot with?

I have a Canon 5D Mark II and a 50mm 1.4 lens.

What is your favourite photography accessory other than your camera?

Well, it's mostly just me, my camera and the sun.

How important is Photoshop (or other editing software) in your final images?

I believe Photoshop is essential.

It's part of the creative process, it's the painting that goes over the sketch.

What do you want to say with your photographs?

I like to tell stories with my photos, fairytales and emotions.

What motivates you to continue taking pictures?

My imagination, even when I decidedly try to stop taking photos the concepts play on in my mind until I >>> shoot them.

If you wake up and your house is on fire what two things would you grab and run? Family members and pets have already been rescued by sexy firemen.

Damn, well my camera equipment is insured, so I'd have to say my book collection and my hard drives - where the images I take live.

Whimsy

We’ve used a few of Jes Hunter’s photos in alt.SA before and think it’s high time to you get to know her better.

Her photos awake a belief in fairies, goblins and unicorns with its warm and inviting colours covered in an air of magic.

Her skill to tell stories through her photos is remarkable and we’re glad this self-proclaimed recluse and introvert took the time to answer some questions.
