Landscaping SALI Awards

The landscape masterplan for Monaghan Farm Stand 68 was done by Insite Landscape Architects and the landscape contractor is Life Landscapes . The latter continues to advise on ongoing changes or additions . The clients ’ brief for the landscaping was simple : a low maintenance garden with predominantly whites , pinks , blues and purples , and the use of veldgrass . The plants were sourced by Tshala Plant Brokers and the seeding of veldgrass was done by Thabakholo Environmental Solutions . The veldgrass needs periodic slashing and the trees planted on the property are from Monaghan ’ s approved list comprising locally indigenous species .
The Monaghan Aesthetics Committee has the right to request the removal of plants that are not in keeping with the Highveld grassland ethos of the farm but small exotic trees and other exotic plants , along with fruit trees , are acceptable in courtyards or in any positions that are out of view .
The trees and large shrubs around the homestead on Stand 68 serve to screen certain areas so as to create privacy and are , amongst others , Olea europaea subsp africana ( Wild Olive ), Buddleja saligna ( False Olive ), Rhamnus prinoides ( Blinkblaar ) with its
