African project Ethiopian Airlines Hangar outputs comprehensive material ordering schedules. An architect was not appointed on this project and the conceptual design was initiated and developed entirely by Hatch Goba, based on the client’s broad outline for functional hangar space. The completed arch hangar is a showcase example of engineering aesthetics in which there is harmony between efficient structural form, functionality, elegance and beauty. It is evident that the designer’s pursuit of structural economy, through macro structural form (arch truss and tension net bracing) and also through the use of hollow sections, was not at odds with the desire for an aesthetically pleasing outcome.
