HONOURED
The Free State Institute of Architects (FSIA) has this year again given
their members the opportunity to be awarded with a regional award for
architecture. Members were invited to submit Free State (South Africa)
projects, completed between January 2013 and December 2014.
T
hese professional works were adjudicated by a Panel of Jurors on 12
and 13 October 2015. The Awards’ Programme is not a competition,
each project was adjudicated and awarded on merit (example:
design, aesthetics, commodity, orientation, etc.). The awards were
conferred during the FSIA’s Year-End Function/Awards’ Ceremony
held on October 22, 2015. Projects awarded with a ‘FSIA Award for
Architecture 2015’ were:
• Gallery on Leviseur by Sergio Nunes Architects
• House Roodt by Roodt Architects
• The Edge Restaurant, Naval Hill by Reinier Brönn Architects &
Associates
• Liedjiesbos Guest House New Residence by p+arc Architects
• Reinvention of a 48 Year-Old Spec House; House Van Zyl by GXY Architects
• UFS Main Campus New Visitors’ Centre by Typology Architects
The Regional Awards Programme is held biannually. Each of the 11 Regional
Institutes, affiliated with the South African Institute of Architects (SAIA),
forward SAIA’s standard awards conditions and guidelines to their members to
submit projects completed in each Region, for the specific period. The Panel of
Adjudicators also follows specific guidelines to ensure that the process adheres to
SAIA’s standards.
Projects awarded with a regional award, are then submitted for national
adjudication to become eligible for a SAIA Award of Merit 2016 and a SAIA Award
for Excellence 2016. The above entries were also on display during the FSIA’s
BloemBuild Expo held in July at the Callie Human Centre, University of the Free
State Main Campus. AD
