EP: How do your roots influence your work?

GC: I’m very much influenced by my cultural heritage – a connection with the Afro-American religions and symbols, the spiritual beliefs, the Christian iconography and powerful narratives are at the root of my work.

EP: Where are you in your career as an artist?

GC: Artistically, I’m in a place where my art moves towards a deep personal direction and nevertheless, its message is universal. I always see myself as an artist in transition.

EP: When is your next exhibit?

GC: I’m part of a group exhibit about the political struggle we now face with President Trump. The exhibit is called appropriately “The world after January 20, 2017”. The exhibit goes through February 16th at the James W. palmer Gallery, at Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY
