Focused on recruiting and training new school leaders , New Leaders is a national non-profit organization whose primary goal is improving education outcomes for disadvantaged students . New Leaders also promotes the policies and practices that help to support such leaders . Initially focused on training new principals when it was founded in 1990 , New Leaders has broadened its mission to include other leaders throughout schools and districts , including teacher leaders , assistant principals , veteran principals , and district administrators . New Leaders offers leadership training in 15 urban areas across the country including Memphis , where approximately 20 percent of the district ’ s schools and their 36,000 students are led by New Leaders .
