Today, ‘don’t call us, we’ll call you’ has
morphed into ‘don’t call us, we won’t call
you.’ Candidates feel bewildered and
disrespected, wondering what happened
to common courtesy and good manners.
Today, the human resource function has
changed. Depending on the organization,
it could mean fewer team members
juggling more work. It could also mean
human resources is merged with other
departments. The number of hours in a
day hasn’t changed, but today’s human
resource leaders have more to do.
From the perspective of the hiring
manager or business owner, the old ways
might not seem as effective as today’s
Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS). On the
other hand, even in recessionary times,
most HR departments probably didn’t get
a mountain of resumes to sort through
like they do today. Software has made it
very easy to go online and apply for jobs.
Relying strictly on keywords to select top

have the best personality and experience
for the company and position.
