Besides the official ones used in the postal system, there are also a number of commemorative stamps available. If you use these to send a letter abroad, the post office will not accept them – or if you manage to drop it off in a post box, the letter will be returned to you later. Commemorative stamps are usually printed by individuals or private entities, aiming at a philanthropic objective or in order to raise awareness. The latter has been at the focus of the stamps issued to commemorate the Armenian Genocide.
