4 Corners March 2017

4 Corners A Publication of Lauderdale County Schools Volume IV Issue 8 March 2017 LCSD on Track to Finish Strong It is hard to believe we are in the 1inal nine weeks of the 2016- 2017 school year. We know in these 1inal few months all schools will be extremely busy with state testing. Whether students are taking MKAS2, MAP, MST2, SATP2, MAP-A, or LAS Links, we know it is a stressful time for all. However, as a district we must not lose sight of all we have accomplished. During the 1irst round of MAP testing, we had more “A” schools than ever before, which resulted in a strong “B” rating for our district. With all of the things we have in place now, we are con1ident an “A” rating for this district is within our reach. At this point in the year, we need to pay attention to the little things that will produce big results. Here are a few examples: Randy Hodges, Superintendent 1. Continue to build relationships with your students. Take time to praise them and encour- age them. Find ways to celebrate their effort. We have all been amazed at the extra effort we get from students through motivation. 2. Talk with students about the importance of determination. So many young people today lack the ability to persevere in the face of dif1iculty, as it is easier to just give up. This is a life lesson that will take them far. 3. Know who your students are on the “bubble” for pro1iciency. Make it a point to spend extra time working on those most important skills that can make the biggest difference. 4. Review test taking skills and strategies with your students prior to test day. 5. Continue to talk with parents about the importance of school attendance and encourage them to work on skills at home. I want to take this time to thank you for what you do for students. You have tremendous power to be the difference in the lives of young people each day. So, I encourage you to stay the course and 1inish strong. We all agree our students deserve the best we can offer.
