LCSD Safety Focus
During the Holidays
As we approach this holiday season, we are reminded of the
things most important in life, which includes family and friends.
Making sure the ones we love most are safe and secure is one of
our top priorities. This includes sharing with those closest to us
the dangers we face during this time of year. As educators, this
involves ensuring our students have the necessary knowledge to
make good decisions. Teachers, with the help of community
members, have this incredible opportunity to in=luence students in Randy Hodges, Superintendent
areas beyond the walls of the classroom. I want to thank
Evangel Temple leaders and members for the recent program addressing some of these dif=icult
real life issues our young people encounter. Students were able to see how bullying, gang activity, alcohol and drug use, and teenage pregnancy can have a lasting in=luence in their life. As a
school district, we do an outstanding job preparing students for college and career. However,
we often fail to address some of the most relevant, real life issues our students face. Thanks to
a strong partnership with community leaders we can provide these life-changing opportunities
for our students.
Teachers, as we prepare to leave for the Christmas break, I encourage you to take time to
remind students of the importance of safety. Our young people must face dif=icult choices daily.
Some of these choices, such as speeding or texting while driving, can ultimately have lasting consequences. It is our responsibility to keep reminding them of the dangers and offer solutions
when faced with tough situations. Safety hit home last week as our entire district mourned the
loss of one of our students and his father. Our continued thoughts and prayers are extended to
the entire House family and the students and staff of West Lauderdale High School.
Wishing all of you a safe and happy holiday season!
