the concept of journaling , I just never liked the concept of writing . So for me , I felt like my body was a canvas and it was going to tell my story and I was going to earn every stripe on it . No matter what I went through in life I needed it on my body because it was going to remind me every single day what I went through . That ’ s what I ’ ve done . Every influential or impactful moment , whether hardship or triumph , is on my body . It reminds me every day . It ’ s a story that is who I am and what I ’ m about . To me no journal or piece of paper could do that justice .
Is there one tattoo that you particularly enjoy or that means a lot to you ? Yeah . There are 2 that mean a lot to me . One is a good story , the other not so good . On the inside of my leg I have the statue of Liberty . Everything I worked for in my life , you know , to win the WC and to represent my country every day is such an honor for me . Having a ticker tape parade in NYC and being one of the first females to be able to experience that in front of hundreds of thousands of people is a moment I ’ ll never forget in my whole life . It made every single tear , every drop of sweat , every moment , worth it in the end . So I made sure to get that on my leg . Then on the other end I have a skull with a headdress with red feathers that come out of the head . It was a dark moment in my life where I kept going through heartache and coming up short . I felt like no matter how hard I was working I wasn ’ t seeing the success or benefits or rewards of anything . Then I read a story about an Indian chief , and this dates back to my grandparents and being Native American and all that . The story was about this chief and every physical battle he would go through in life he would have to earn his stripes . So every success they would get a feather and the best chiefs would have these giant headdresses that would show what they had gone through . For me , I have gone through , in my 31 years , so many ups and downs , and I ’ ve earned every single moment of it . I think too
