I hear you spend a lot of time surfing . I started in high school but we lived about 45 mins from the beach so it wasn ’ t too easy to get there but I tried as much as possible getting rides and then got a house at the Jersey shore with all of my high school buddies as soon as we graduated , way before the TV show . I surfed every day but didn ’ t get very good . I remember asking a friend , a roommate to teach me because he didn ’ t pay any rent but knew how to surf . I asked how long it would take me and he said if I surfed every day like him I should be pretty good by the end of the summer . That wasn ’ t true , by the end of the summer I was just as bad as the day I started . I really didn ’ t start to get good until I moved to Florida . Later I got a place by the beach where I could check the waves every day . The waves were a lot more consistent here and I really got into it and started doing surf trips and focusing myself around that lifestyle .
Have you ever entered a competition ? I ’ ve only done one of them . They do them all the time . The best surfer in the world is from Cocoa Beach Florida , Kelly Slater , so there ’ s a lot of contests . I did one , I was there as a sponsor and they talked me into it . I entered long board and I won first place for amateur .
