SKILL LEVEL : Open to All AGES : 13 - 17
CONCEPT : Hit the skate park in style after partaking in this hip , inspiring workshop . Explore skate culture ’ s unique artistic elements in this creative experience designed for skateboard enthusiasts of all types who want to add that custom edge to their boards . We begin by looking at classic skateboard designs and then translate them into our own custom-made boards . After adding wheels , grip tape , trucks and final assemblies to the boards , students test their unique creations .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Working with veneer , glue , paint , grip tape and stickers , students design and build their own skateboard . We glue up the deck , cut the shape out , profile the edges , sand , finish and ride ! Trucks and wheels not included .
ACTIVITIES : While skate movies show in the background , we discuss our epic skateboard decks and the possibilities of customization , culminating in the construction of incredible custom boards .
FACULTY : Fabiano Sarra studied woodworking and furniture design at the School for American Crafts and is the Studio Coordinator of Woodworking & Furniture Design at Anderson Ranch . He has exhibited work at the Burchfield Penney Art Center , the Memorial Art Gallery , Wichita Center for the Arts and the Center for Art in Wood .

SKILL LEVEL : Open to All AGES : 13 - 17
CONCEPT : Express yourself through art and learn the fundamentals of screen printing in this hands-on printmaking workshop , designed specifically for teens . Use multiple screen printing techniques to make exciting works on paper , unique posters and original t-shirts . Students design images , squeegee ink through mesh screens , and learn multiple-color registration . Walk away from this workshop with a variety of new printmaking skills , t-shirts and posters for friends , family and your growing portfolio .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use water-based screen printing inks , digital halftones and drawing fluid to make t-shirts , original prints and posters . Watercolor monotype is introduced as an additional technique to incorporate into prints .
ACTIVITIES : Each day we design , draw and print , building from single-color prints to more complex , multicolor prints . Group discussions , slide lectures and examples from Anderson Ranch Editions give an historical and holistic understanding of screen printing in pop culture . Emphasis is on active work and experimentation .
FACULTY : Josh Meier is the Studio Coordinator of Painting , Drawing & Printmaking at Anderson Ranch . He received a B . F . A . from the University of Kansas in 2012 . His work has been featured in New American Paintings and recent exhibitions include “ Record High ” at PDX Window Project and “ Your eyes like a punch ” at Anderson Ranch .

CONCEPT : Explore the visual language of images and nurture your passion for photography through an atmosphere of exploration , practice and play in this dynamic workshop . Examine how great photographs engage us visually , emotionally and intellectually . Improve your image-making abilities by focusing on both the technical aspects of a photograph and the ideas behind it while working on projects such as storytelling , the environment and abstraction . Learn more about your digital camera as we discuss techniques that allow you to take better and more unique photos . We edit in Adobe Lightroom , retouch photos , and discover ways to manage and organize images . We also view and discuss important photographs from the past and present .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students use a digital camera with manual exposure capabilities and tripod , and Adobe Lightroom to import , edit and process images .
ACTIVITIES : We learn digital camera functions , shooting skills and image processing . Students increase their knowledge of contemporary photography with in-class demonstrations , hands-on computer instruction , and daily indoor and outdoor shooting projects .
FACULTY : Conor King received his M . F . A . from Pratt Institute . He has been a member of the art faculty at several colleges and universities since 2009 , including the University of Colorado . Conor has shown his work nationally and internationally , has been a resident artist at RedLine Denver and , until recently , served on the board at the Colorado Photographic Arts Center , where he also assisted with exhibition development . He is a founding member of Tank Studios , where his studio is currently located .
