Budding artists are invited to explore their expressive side in our teen workshops , designed for ages 13 – 17 . Question , experiment and problem solve as you interact with art and discover hidden talents in a truly engaging , positive environment . Students express themselves creatively while learning , skill building and hands-on creating in Anderson Ranch ’ s professionally-equipped studios .
Utilize the technology , tools , resources and studio spaces that adult classes access in courses that are specifically designed for teens . Engage with peers who share similar interests and artistic passions .
Workshops are taught by experienced educators who are also working professional artists . This summer , our weeklong , all-level teen workshops offer small class sizes , ensuring plenty of one-on-one time with instructors and enabling students to fully explore and expand their skills in a variety of media , including ceramics , photography , woodworking and printmaking .

Wheel Throwing for Teens

SKILL LEVEL : Open to All Ages : 13 - 17
CONCEPT : Dive into the fun , hands-on world of ceramics in this introductory workshop , designed specifically for teens . Learn to make cylinders , bowls , plates and more . Students experiment with crafting handles and spouts , as well as explore a variety of decorating techniques , including carving , stamping with colored slips and underglazes . This comprehensive introduction to ceramics enables you to further express your creativity through clay .
MEDIA & TECHNIQUES : Students work with lowfire clays , slips and underglazes .
ACTIVITIES : We work on the potter ’ s wheel each day , starting with cylinders and moving on to more complex and larger forms as the week progresses . Examples and photos of historic and contemporary ceramic forms are shown to provide inspiration . Emphasis is on active work and experimentation .
FACULTY : Anne Goldberg has been playing with clay since childhood . Today , she makes wheel thrown and hand built work in her studio in Carbondale , Colo . She is a ceramics faculty member at Colorado Mountain College and was an Artist-in-Residence at Anderson Ranch . Her work has been exhibited throughout the U . S .
